Can Shaving my Hair Repeatedly Cause Balding?

There are many rumors that shaving your head can cause hair to eventually fall out as well as that it will grow in thicker each time it is shaved. Both of these rumors are false. Hair grows from the follicle outward, and the follicle is located many millimeters below the surface of the skin, the epidermis. So when the hair is shaved, it does not damage the follicle at all and does not change anything about how the hair grows.

However, there is some evidence that repeated waxing or plucking does eventually kill hair follicles. These methods of removing hair will damage the follicle over time and eventually cause the hair to stop growing. However, since shaving the hair does not have any direct affect on the follicle itself, it does not affect the growth of the hair.
